Director, Latina and Latino Studies Program
Northwestern University solicits nominations and applications for the position of Director of its newly-established Latina and Latino Studies Program. The director will work with undergraduate and graduate students, oversee the daily administration of the program, coordinate new programming and support faculty development and mentoring. We seek an individual with a nationally recognized profile in the field of Latino Studies to provide leadership in these key areas.
Candidates must be actively engaged with Latino Studies through a distinguished record of scholarship, research, teaching, and related professional activities that merit appointment at the rank of tenured associate professor or above in the appropriate disciplinary department in Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences (www.wcas.northwestern.edu). Candidates should also have a strong record of substantial administrative leadership in Latino Studies or related programs. We are especially interested in scholars who engage in comparative and cross-disciplinary research, and those with a proven record of securing external funding.
The Latina and Latino Studies Program is a cross-disciplinary program that offers a major and minor for undergraduate students. Core faculty members and affiliates are situated in various departments and across Northwestern’s several schools. The program maintains collaborative decision-making among its faculty. Candidates should, therefore, have a commitment to participatory governance and to inter-disciplinary collaboration. Finally, we seek an individual that will establish networks of support and collaboration both within the university and among Chicago’s dynamic Latino Studies scholars and Latino communities.
Applicants should send a cover letter, c.v., and writing sample to Director Search, Latina and Latino Studies Program, 1880 Campus Drive, Kresge 1-435, Evanston, IL 60208. Three letters of reference should be sent directly to the same address. In addition, a pdf file with application materials – excluding the letters of reference – should be emailed to <latinao-studies@northwestern.edu>. Review of applications will begin Dec. 1, 2009. AA/EOE. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
